The Science Department

During the first year in High School, your child will be exposed to a variety of learning opportunities.  Your child will learn from each of the fields of science by studying Life and Living, Energy and Change, Natural and Processed Materials, and Earth and Beyond. These areas will also incorporate Investigating Scientifically, which has a strong practical emphasis focusing on the processes Scientists use to solve problems and investigate questions.

Your child is expected to have their own pens, pencils, ruler, compass and paper in Science and a calculator is recommended in years 8 and 9 and essential in year 10. These can be purchased from the front office.

Your child’s progress will be assessed using the Outcomes and Standards Framework that is used throughout the Government school system to monitor and evaluate student achievement.  A portfolio of selected work will be compiled during the year.
